In the early 20th century, millions of Italians left their homeland in search of a better life in America. Among them was a young woman named Rosa. From Sicily to America is her story, a gripping novel based on her true experiences.
Rosa was born in a small village in Sicily in 1890. Her family was poor, and she had little opportunity for education or advancement. When she was 16 years old, her father decided to take the family to America. They sailed to New York City, where they settled in a crowded tenement in Little Italy.
At first, life in America was difficult for Rosa. She didn't speak English, she had no job skills, and she was often homesick. But she was determined to make a better life for herself and her family. She found work as a seamstress in a sweatshop and began to learn English. She also met a young man named Antonio, who would become her husband.
Rosa and Antonio worked hard and eventually saved enough money to buy a small house in Brooklyn. They had three children, and Rosa became a respected member of her community. But she never forgot her roots. She often told her children stories about her life in Sicily and taught them the importance of family and hard work.
From Sicily to America is a moving and inspiring novel about one woman's journey from poverty and hardship to success and happiness. It is a story that will resonate with anyone who has ever dreamed of a better life.
About the Author
Rosa's daughter, Mary, wrote From Sicily to America based on her mother's stories. Mary is a retired teacher and lives in Florida. She is the mother of three children and has six grandchildren.
