The Battle of Gettysburg was fought on July 1-3, 1863, in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was the largest battle ever fought on American soil and resulted in the Union victory and the preservation of the Union. The battle has been commemorated with numerous monuments and statues, which tell the story of the battle and its aftermath.
